Year 12 · Maths Methods

Differentiation — Power Rule

Question 3 of 8

Differentiate the function f(x) = 3x² + 2x − 5 with respect to x.

Worked solution

Step 1 — Apply the power rule to each term: d/dx(axⁿ) = n·axⁿ⁻¹

Step 2 — Differentiate each term separately:

  • d/dx(3x²) = 6x
  • d/dx(2x) = 2
  • d/dx(−5) = 0

Step 3 — Combine: f′(x) = 6x + 2

At Ease Learning

Why we built this

Every student deserves access to the same quality of education — regardless of whether their family can afford a private tutor.

We built At Ease Learning because we kept seeing the same pattern: students who understood the concepts but needed just a bit more practice and feedback to get over the line. That kind of support is expensive to get privately. It shouldn't be.

If you're a founding member, you get to influence what subjects and topics we build out first. We read every piece of feedback. Your experience matters to us.

Frequently asked questions

Is it really free?

We cover Year 7 through to Year 12 across Mathematics, Sciences, English, and Humanities. We're adding new topics regularly — if there's something you need that isn't there yet, let us know.

Content is aligned to the Australian Curriculum v9 and mapped to the senior secondary frameworks of each state and territory, including VCE, HSC, QCE, ATAR, SACE, TCE, BSSS, and NTCET.

Are the tutors qualified?

All tutors hold a current Working With Children Check (WWCC) valid in their state or territory and have verified teaching or tutoring experience in their subject area.

Can I use it on my phone or tablet?

Yes. The platform is fully responsive and works on all modern browsers across desktop, tablet, and mobile. No app to download.
